Sometimes a piece is just yelling at you for a makeover. It has great 'bones' but a very outdated finish. Such was this little gem that I picked up at an auction.
Yes, all the lovely antique furniture at this auction was being swept up. But this little bit of nostalgia was avocado green and well, just out of place with all the pristine pieces being offered. Their loss, my gain. I knew right away what I wanted to do with this poor baby.
Metallic!! Yes metallic! Couldn't help myself. I just knew the heavily carved detail would come alive with a black glaze on top of silver metallic paint.
This is not a 'one step' process. To get a finish like this, there is no 'one-step' process. You have to clean, prime (because you just don't know what is on that thing), color paint, metallic paint, glaze and topcoat. The steps are simple, you just have to be patient as it is not a one afternoon process. I also painted hardware from antique brass to black with silver highlights. She's ready at the shop!! Waiting for her forever home.....lol....
